Types Of Water System Filters

When it comes to a device that filters water, you have your work cut out for you when it comes to selecting the right system. There are many different types of water filters that you can choose from. Learning more about the various water system filters on the market today can help you make an informed decision, as can reading objective online user reviews for these products. While all filters can be effective, you should figure out which kind is best for your household needs.

One of the most rudimentary types of water filters is the charcoal filter. Although it is simple, it is still able to filter out unwanted particulate matter. The charcoal carbon for these filters is amazingly harvested from the husks of coconuts. It is estimated that this type of filter is in the vast majority of homes because it is affordable, easy to install and quite effective. If your water has sediment, a sediment removing prefilter can help your charcoal filter last longer and work better. Most charcoal filters last six months or so before requiring replacement.

Then there are ceramic water filters. These are cartriges that are made to fit a countertop filtration system. These contain a fossilized matter called diatomaceous earth, which consists of silicon shell remaining from literally trillions of tiny one cell life forms which are algae diatoms. These diatoms have lived in Earth's water for more than 100 million years. You can find ceramic filters that include nano-silver made to catch extremely microscopic particles. One potential downside to the ceramic filtration system is that the water flow rate is rather slow.

There are various other water system filters, some of which represent high technology. Reverse osmosis water filters make the water so pure is comparable to distilled. There are even ultraviolet light water purifiers. These UV water purifiers work by exposing water in a tube to the UV light to kill all the bacteria. This type of water filtration system is very common in third world resorts and hotels where there is a risk of virus, bacteria or even traces of feces in the drinking water. As you can see, no matter what you need out of a water filter you can find one that works for you. There are countertop models and under the sink models to suit your family.
